Panghat Performing Arts
Panghat. The traditional location – especially in rural India – which acts as a basic ‘watering hole’ for its people. It may be the platform around a well, or the steps leading to lake, or the bank of a river. Our Panghat is no different. Except that instead of water, we have culture flowing by.
Our main goal is to promote Indian folk culture – especially its dance & music – by creating awareness and training people. We have been involved in these activities since 1995, and are registered with the Government of India. We are one of the few institutions involved in promoting Indian folk dance. And unlike some others that become active only during the festival and wedding seasons, we are functional ’round-the-year.
Panghat specializes in over twenty-five types of folk dances. We have acquired mastery in these by going to their places of origin, and learning them from authentic practitioners. We are noted for our unique costumes that are a star attraction in every function we participate in. Each traditional outfit is painstakingly designed by our own troupe.
The only criterion required to become a member of our Panghat Family, is that you must be at least 2 ½ years old.
Whatever Panghat has achieved till today, has been possible because of the untiring effort of our institutudes Director, Mr. Chetan Dave, who meets all clients, handles correspondence, organizes shows …and still finds time to train children. He is assisted in his work by our experienced Co-Directors Mr. Nimesh Upadhyay and Mr. Jayesh Prajapati, who are solely responsible for the settings, costumes and training for our shows.
Panghat has travelled far and wide – both in India and abroad – giving performances and enthralling audiences worldwide. We have already performed in Italy and spain with our entire troupe.
We make it a point to participate in as many functions as possible. Be they All-India competitions, TV shows, stage performances, trade-fairs & exhibitions, product & event promotion, government, institutional & corporate functions, private parties & clubs…
We are fortunate to be amongst the first people to be approached for the nine-day Navratri dance-fest of raas-garba. (Though this dance-form originated in Gujarat, it has attained nation-wide popularity today.) As this is an annual highlight, we practice for it all-year ’round.
We conduct two grand shows during the year, in Ahmedabad.
We are often called to organise a traditional welcome for VIPs, delegates and visiting dignitaries.
We even train school & college students to perform in their annual functions & youth festivals.
